Four School of Music Alumni considered for first ever Music Educator Grammy

Boston, MA – Boston University College of Fine Arts is pleased to announce that four School of Music alumni are in the running for the first ever Music Educator Grammy presented by the GRAMMY Foundation®. The Music Educator Award was established to recognize current educators (K – College, public and private schools) who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education, and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools.

A total of 217 music teachers from 195 cities across 45 states have been announced as quarterfinalists for the award, presented by The Royal Academy® and the GRAMMY Foundaton®. CFA alumni include:

Radio Cremata (DMA ’10)
Aspira (Miami, FL)

Ingrid Kovacs (DMA ’10)
Canarelli Middle School (Las Vegas, NV)

Dana Lamb (MM ’13)
Cleveland Elementary School (Fayetteville, GA)

Jerry Phelps (MM ’11)
Democracy Prep Endurance Middle School (New York, NY)

One recipient will be selected from 10 finalists each year, and will be recognized for his/her remarkable impact on students’ lives. The winner will be flown to Los Angeles to accept the award, attend the GRAMMY Awards ceremony, and receive a $10,000 honorarium. The semifinalists will be announced in August.
