Opening Reception: Friday, October 24, 6–8pm
Venue: 808 Gallery (808 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston)

“As this is SVA’s first large-scale exhibition, we hope to show the broad diversity of alumni that the College has educated over 60 years, and the similarities and differences that span the generations of artists,” says Lynne Cooney, exhibitions manager for the School of Visual Arts at Boston University College of Fine Arts. “The theme ties into CFA’s 2014 Keyword: Intersect. We see ‘Convergence’ as a way of bringing together, or intersecting, the diverse practices of our alumni, exploring trends that may emerge, or discernible radical differences; delving into the convergence of styles, media, and points of view.”
Opening at 808 Gallery on Friday, October 24th, the exhibition is guest curated from an open call by New York-based artist, Andrea Champlin.
“SVA wanted to remind everyone how many successful artists have ties to BU,” says James Hull, exhibitions director, ad interim for the School. “Convergence is a way of sharing the School’s long and impressive history, educating some of the most important artists working today.”
“We carefully made the decision not just to include established artists, but alumni working at all stages of career,” continued Hull. “We wanted to show that the school is constantly contributing to the creative environment, the art work, and that means including young, exciting artists, as well as more established ones. It is our hope that the exhibition gives a visual frame of reference to the years of effort put into maintaining a high level of instruction, great facilities, and a strong connection to the community. ”
