Boston University College of Fine Arts Announces 2013–2014 Keyword Initiative CFA Season Programming to Focus on Theme of “Transformation”

Boston, MA – At Boston University College of Fine Arts (CFA), faculty and staff are as concerned with the process as they are with the performance or finished piece. Commencing CFA’s Keyword Initiative’s third year, the College is proud to invite the BU and global community in a creative discussion and call to action around this year’s annual theme of TRANSFORMATION.

Transformation is marked by metamorphosis, or a process of profound or radical change.

“It is through the process that we think, engage, and find solutions,” said Benjamín Juárez, Dean, College of Fine Arts, Boston University. “And it is through this process that our art takes shape, and we as artists grow.”

From September through May, CFA will present a range of works that explore the essence of transformation, focusing on profound shifts in individuals and society — including the metamorphosis of a diva’s spirit into a vast, emerald butterfly in Florencia en el Amazonas, the evolution of ten Polish classmates lives as their country is torn apart by war in Our Class, and Leonard Nimoy’s exploration, through portrait photography, of the inner yearnings and fantasies of the residents of Northampton, MA in Secret Selves.

Through a generous gift from BU alumna Nancy Livingston (COM ’69) and her husband, Fred Levin, made possible through the Shenson Foundation in memory of Ben and A. Jess Shenson, CFA invites members of the community to join us in this journey of exploration and evolution, to embrace the power of art, to witness the transformation, and to, perhaps, let the art transform you.
